Raslouw is a suburb mid-transition — smallholdings with wooded gardens giving way to brand-new gated cluster and lifestyle estates, sometimes on the same street.
Two very different housing stocks, one suburb
A shrinking stock of original smallholdings — some on stands historically up to 25,000m², with horse paddocks and large, well-established wooded gardens — sits a street or two from newer, repeating-floorplan gated cluster and lifestyle estates such as Raslouw Lifestyle Estate, Raslouw Glen and Raslouw Manor. It's genuinely mixed: very little of one architectural identity, a lot of both at once.
The older smallholding houses benefit from big garden buffers and decades of established tree shade cutting direct sun. The newer cluster and estate homes run tighter, more repeated window schedules — closer in spirit to Southdowns next door — with more direct, unshaded exposure and less mature planting to soften it.
Raslouw sits a short drive from the N1 and within reach of the Centurion Gautrain station, and carries the same highveld storm pattern as the rest of the area — any exterior product on an exposed new-estate elevation gets a wind sensor as standard.
One street, two specifications
On the newer cluster estates, roller blinds in blockout or sunscreen answer the same repeating window schedule Southdowns has, and motorised control comes up often on the wider new-build glazing. On the older smallholding stock, aluminium venetians remain the practical pick for bathrooms and sculleries, with the established tree canopy doing a lot of the heavy lifting on everything else.
Either side of the suburb, wind-sensored folding-arm awnings are a strong fit over a patio or braai area.
