A 230-hectare walled estate of English Country homes on stands from 890m² to a hectare or more — big, largely unobstructed glazing that needs shading planned in from the start.
Large stands, big sightlines, one long perimeter wall
Cornwall Hill was proclaimed in 1998 and now houses around 403 families behind a roughly 9.5km perimeter wall, with about 10km of tarred internal road winding past an on-site equestrian centre and parks. Homes are built in an English Country theme, some with a modern twist, generally set well back from the road behind landscaped gardens — a handful of the larger stands run to 4,000–10,000m².
Because stands are this generous, most elevations get full, largely unobstructed highveld sun rather than a neighbour's wall or a tight garden buffer cutting the light. That's an advantage for daylight and a real consideration for heat and glare — big glazing with nothing shading it means the specification has to do the work a smaller stand's garden trees would otherwise do.
Cornwall Hill runs design and architectural guidelines for anything visible from outside the home, which is standard practice on a walled estate of this scale. We default to neutral, low-visibility finishes and treat estate sign-off as part of the process, not an afterthought.

Shading for stands with nowhere to hide from the sun
With no neighbouring wall or tight garden to cut the light, folding-arm awnings and external venetian blinds do real work on Cornwall Hill's more open elevations — stopping heat before it reaches the glass rather than fighting it once it's inside. Both go out wind-sensored as standard, in line with the same October–March storm pattern that covers the whole area.
Indoors, the larger, more architecturally detailed homes here are also where concealed & recessed blinds come up most, keeping a clean ceiling line in rooms built to be looked at.
